Fife hospitals get ‘revitalised’ by Penicuik Commercial

An excellent product and a reliable, experienced contractor were ‘top of the list’ when Fife Primary Care NHS Trust decided on a window replacement programme at Stratheden and Netherlea hospitals. They decided on Penicuik Commercial to fulfil these tasks.

Both hospitals are of Victorian era, having been fitted with traditional timber ‘sash and case’ windows. The objective was to significantly improve the environment for patients and staff and also improve the building energy efficiency.

The new windows supplied are the VS vertical sliding range from Spectus Window Systems. These ‘state of the art’ vertical sliding windows are some of the most technologically advanced products available. They are designed to provide optimum strength, superior thermal qualities and excellent weathering performance and will retain their pristine appearance year after year. They are ideal for use in both traditional and modern applications. Throughout, the windows meet the requirements of Document L Part J of the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations.

Neil Clunie, Commercial Director of Penicuik comments, “Penicuik were set a very tight schedule for this work. The building had to be surveyed, window specification agreed, windows fabricated and fitted, all within a four week timescale. Throw in the added factor that all the hospital wards were ‘live’ and it was here that Penicuik’s extensive experience in handling social housing and public sector refurbishment stood us in good stead, causing minimal disruption and distress to the patients and staff’.

This is just the latest in a series of projects that Penicuik Commercial has carried out on behalf of Fife primary Care NHS Trust. Penicuik, which has a turnover of over £10million, has been better known as a well-established provider of domestic windows, doors and conservatories. Penicuik Commercial aims to capitalise on the Penicuik brand, utilising these advantages in the commercial arena.

Neil Clunie said: “Penicuik believe in our ability to provide effective solutions for all our clients and this makes us easy to do business with. And, of course, the more solutions we come up with, the better the service we can provide. Stratheden and Netherlea hospitals are just another two additional chapters in the continuing Penicuik Commercial success story”.
